I felt that the first edition of Treasured Lands was a bit unbalanced towards the West Coast. In addition to the two new national parks, I have also inserted a new two-page spread for four other midwestern and eastern national parks, the result of re-visits I did after the book was first published.
One of nature’s most wondrous light shows occurs during the synchronous fireflies mating season, when the bugs flash at once in a silent symphony of sparks. Synchronous fireflies exist only in a handful of places in the world, with Great Smoky Mountains National Park being the most well known. The progress of digital photography allowed me to capture images that eluded me in the
past. At another new location in the book, Cataloochee, I photographed the night sky. I normally prefer to depict the night sky with point stars, but because of clouds, they didn’t show up well, so instead, I created star trails, and I think they pair well with the light trails of the fireflies. Swipe right to see the spread.
All the additions to the second edition of Treasured Lands bring to total number of additional pages to 24. If you compare both editions side by side, you will notice that the new one is slightly thicker. The additional pages and higher quality materials make the book weight increase from 7.4 lbs to 7.8 lbs (click on my profile link for info and to order). #fireflies #greatsmokymountains #nationalpark #tennessee
