Wondering what kind of work we do at Thrive Central Oregon? It's story time!
Rob, a senior, decorated and disabled Vietnam Veteran, came to see TCO at our Crook County Library site in July 2018. He had moved to Prineville three weeks prior from Portland, where he found his health was greatly impacted by the climate. He was referred to TCO by the DHS office, as he was in need of housing.
Rob was living in a motel, and paying nearly 2/3 of his income for a room with shared bath. TCO met weekly with Rob, and assisted him in applying for affordable and subsidized housing in Prineville, Redmond and Madras. Throughout the arduous process that is seeking affordable housing in Central Oregon, Rob would come see TCO when he was feeling depressed and out of options. TCO not only assisted him in locating housing, we advocated with Rob for deposit and moving assistance, and a lent a listening ear when times got tough.
Rob and his emotional support cat moved in to a 2-bedroom apartment in Madras in March 2019, and quickly connected with local Veteran resources. He also has been working on paying off debt, so that he can grow his credit score and eventually assist his partner in moving in with him.
