Transitions Float Studio, Juno Beach, FL 2017 (10’x8’) Have you heard about float tanks? If you haven’t, it’s time you did.
Float Tanks, also known as Sensory Deprivation Tanks, contain approximately 1,000 pounds of epsom salt in 10 inches of water. The density allows the body to effortlessly float above the water, allowing one to fully relax without sinking. The hatch to the tank is then closed so no light can enter the space. The experience simulates a removal of sensory information, such as sight, sound, smell and touch. Many have remarked that it’s a similar feeling of returning to their mother’s womb. It has gained popularity for the potential of accelerated healing, meditative atmosphere, and with athletes for improved recovery times.
For this mural we wanted to recreate the sensation of floating, and the act of merging with the element of water.
As this was a new location of an existing business, many of their customers came to the opening and got to paint the mural. We particularly love this man’s focus and precision, using a ruler to ensure he painted within the lines. Such dedication!
