Last week in Rabat, the culmination of over two years of work by an incredibly talented international team went on display. Aziza Chaouni and Lucy Hofbauer are the curators behind Sidi Harazem: One oasis moderne. Aziza, an architect and professor at UofT, and Lucy, a curator and historian, have dedicated much of their work to the understanding of the work of the Moroccan modernist architect Jean-François Zevaco who was commissioned by the Moroccan government post-independence to build a thermal bath complex in the middle of the desert in 1960.
While the site is a complete dream for all the brutalist architecture nerds out there, it's also the site of complex political and socioeconomic forces that continue to battle to this day. What a fucking dream to work on this project, and to have had the opportunity to collaborate with some incredibly talented humans. And although it was 40°C while I was taking most of these photos, I never did jump into this particular pool. Next time tho ;)
