[ad] I managed the incredible feat of mispronouncing the names of nearly every place in Aberdeenshire. A few guffaws later (them, not me as I was looking rather sheepish 🐑 baaaa), the incredibly hospitable locals taught me how to pronounce the words complete with a very broad Scottish accent. Crathes - Crath-ess.
I headed back to Old Aberdeen to visit St Machar’s cathedral (pronounced Muck-ar). Machar was a 6th century Irish bishop who ministered around @visitabdn. He founded a worship site in Old Aberdeen around 580 but the church has since been destroyed, rebuilt and renovated many times.
Now here’s something a little more gory. After his execution, Sir William Wallace (portrayed by Mel Gibson in the movie Braveheart) was cut up and his left quarter was buried within the walls of the cathedral. Apparently, it’s still there..... @flyloganair
