I just managed to turn a near disastrous morning on the trails into one that I won’t forget for some time to come. 12.5 miles of climbing, descent, single and double track, and epic views of Silicon Valley. California, you’re something else.
The goal was to put in fast, non-running miles on serious terrain. All was going well until about mile 2.5, when I couldn’t have been further from anything, and my stomach just randomly decided to fall apart. It was likely my body detoxing with all the fresh air and flushing out the last month and a half of bad eating habits. But I made do, and got back to the parking lot.
I nearly called it quits, but felt things turn around. I wanted those miles today. Needed them, honestly. So I kept going.
What a morning! I saw deer and a lot of vert! I saw epic valleys and shade-covered single track. Black Mountain is an absolute playground. And I will be back. Again and again.
I feel confident that I can start running again next week. And then do a dirt race in two weeks. I feel like I’m getting it back. That’s exciting.
I hope your Saturday is as good as mine is so far. Make it great. Get out there. Get moving.
