Journal Entry 51 - Island in the Sky, UT
You brace yourself as you peer over the edge - legs dangling beneath you, feeling your stomach plummet far below. The hot, dry air blows bits of dirt as your clothing batters against the strong western wind, precariously stable in your position. You feel the rough earth tight against your sweaty hands, maintaining your balance like a vice grip as you stare into the distance.
Your bravery swells; you begin to kick your feet a little, high in the arid desert sky. Laughing, you spread your toes, feeling the warm sunlight against your skin. Your preoccupation with balance loosens as your muscles relax, the tension expelled while the hairs on your leg tickle in the breeze.
You inhale deeply, closing your eyes amidst the sensation of a warm, soothing gust rising up from the valley. Stretching, you shake off the fear that gripped you.
You are alive, evidenced by the rapid pulse of your heart. Your palate tastes freedom.. a little dirt too, but mostly freedom.
You decide adventure has one hell of a gritty flavour.
